About
Us
Birmingham Food Not Bombs is a community project dedicated to exposing the waste and corruption that runs rampant in our current system. Instead of wasting our labor, resources and time building bigger, scarier bombs, we, as people of the world, should instead focus our collective effort on providing for the basic needs of human beings. The Birmingham, AL Food Not Bombs project began in late July of 2005. We have weekly picnics
every Sunday, starting around 2:30 PM, behind the Five Points fountain in Southside. These are community meals open to all, as an opportunity to build community,
reclaim public space, protest hunger, poverty, militarization, and all forms
of oppression. Food is a right, not a privilege! We wish to treat the homeless and hungry as equals, and raise awareness that they should be treated as such.
